Brian Heeringa presents Bats of Wisconsin

July 28, 2022 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Free
big brown bat

Join Brian Heeringa, Wildlife Biologist for the Washburn Ranger District of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, to learn about the bats of Wisconsin and which bats call North Pikes Creek Wetlands home. Discover the importance of bats and the role they play in ecosystems around the world. The summer months are a busy time for bats in Wisconsin and their presence on the landscape can be seen at dusk as they come out to forage for insects. We may see bats emerge from the bat house near the pavilion. Following the presentation – at approximately 9 pm – you have the option of taking a short hike on the nearby boardwalk to observe bats foraging in the area using bat detectors to listen in on their echolocation. Bring a small flashlight for the walk.
