Fishers are rarely, if ever, seen by hikers walking through the woods. The public generally knows very little about these shy creatures. Dr. Michael Joyce, Wildlife Ecologist at the Natural Resources Research Institute in Duluth, shared information on the long-term research being done at the Institute on Fishers.
Dedication of Beaver Hollow and the Tom Frizzell Memorial Boardwalk
Join us at Beaver Hollow, 88850 Compton Rd, Bayfield, at 2 pm on Sunday, July 11, for the official Grand Opening of Beaver Hollow and the Dedication of the Thomas D. Frizzell Memorial boardwalk. It will be a grand time! The Beaver Hollow Outdoor Education and Recreation Area has been a long time in the making. The work to acquire the sensitive wetland properties began in 2012. Once the property was acquired, the Friends began the work to make a small portion of the conserved acreage accessible to the public for educational and nature-based recreational use. The Friends are pleased to officially introduce this Beaver Hollow nature area to the community.
Our local legislators, Representative Beth Meyers, and Senator Janet Bewley, will be featured speakers at the Beaver Hollow Dedication, and David Saetre will dedicate the boardwalk to the memory of Tom Frizzell. If you knew Tom, you also knew of his passion for the environment and the outdoors. When the Friends of the North Pikes Creek Wetlands’ organization was being formed, Tom served as a valued advisor and founding board member. There is no more fitting tribute to Tom than to dedicate the boardwalk at the wetlands he loved in his name.
We hope to see you at Beaver Hollow on Sunday, July 11, at 2 pm, to formally dedicate this new outdoor nature facility!
