Fishers are rarely, if ever, seen by hikers walking through the woods. The public generally knows very little about these shy creatures. Dr. Michael Joyce, Wildlife Ecologist at the Natural Resources Research Institute in Duluth, shared information on the long-term research being done at the Institute on Fishers.
Snowshoeing at Beaver Hollow
Fresh snow is falling! It’s time to get outside at Beaver Hollow with your snowshoes!
You don’t have snowshoes? Luckily, thanks to generous donations from the Bayfield Community Education Foundation (BCEF), and from Friends’ members, we are able to loan snowshoes for use at Beaver Hollow. Last year, our members purchased snowshoes that will fit people about ages 10 and up. This winter, the BCEF generously funded the purchase of snowshoes that fit children ages 5-9. We now have enough snowshoes to outfit a grade level of Bayfield School students. The snowshoes are available for loan to school classes, youth groups, families, individuals, and Friends’ members, who want to snowshoe at Beaver Hollow. Email us to arrange a loan, info@northpikescreek.org. A Friends’ member will meet you at the Beaver Hollow parking lot with the requested snowshoes, and pick them up later in the day.
