SUMMARY:Saving Cranes and the Places Where They Dance
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Beaver Hollow on Thursday August 8\, at 2 pm\, to hear Ryan Michalesko of the International Crane Foundation (ICF) talk about Wisconsin’s Sandhill and Whooping Cranes\, the importance of Wisconsin wetlands to the species\, conservation policy\, and the human-wildlife conflict that occurs in communities where these birds are found. Ryan will discuss ICF’s work here in Wisconsin and worldwide. The story of the Sandhill Crane\, Grus canadensis\, is one of true conservation success. The species – one of the oldest on the planet – was nearly extirpated in the Midwest. Sandhill Cranes are now thriving due to a mix of factors\, including better wetland protection and management and their shift to agricultural crops after losing their natural grassland habitat.  \nRyan Michalesko works on the North American Program team at the International Crane Foundation. With a footprint in over 50 countries on the five continents where cranes exist\, the foundation works worldwide to conserve cranes and the ecosystems\, watersheds\, and flyways on which they depend. He has a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Planning and a master’s degree in Natural Resource Policy from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. \nRegistration is recommended\, but not required. \nREGISTER\nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Print (Opens in new window)\n Print\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X
