SUMMARY:Fishers - Cryptic Forest Carnivores
DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, July 10th\, Michael Joyce will present “Fishers – Cryptic Forest Carnivores” at 2 pm at the Beaver Hollow pavilion. Fishers are a member of the weasel family and native to the Western Great Lakes Region. In Minnesota\, the core population of fishers has declined by 50% over the last 20 years. During the same time\, fishers have expanded their range\, moving into southern Minnesota including the greater Twin Cities Metro area. Joyce will discuss a general history of fishers\, highlight factors contributing to their recent decline\, and describe ongoing research to better understand fisher ecology. \nMichael Joyce is a wildlife ecologist working at the Natural Resources Research Institute in Duluth. He has been studying wildlife in northern Minnesota over the last 12 years.
