Fishers – Cryptic Forest Carnivores
July 10 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeOn Wednesday, July 10th, Michael Joyce will present “Fishers – Cryptic Forest Carnivores” at 2 pm at the Beaver Hollow pavilion. Fishers are a member of the weasel family and native to the Western Great Lakes Region. In Minnesota, the core population of fishers has declined by 50% over the last 20 years. During the same time, fishers have expanded their range, moving into southern Minnesota including the greater Twin Cities Metro area. Joyce will discuss a general history of fishers, highlight factors contributing to their recent decline, and describe ongoing research to better understand fisher ecology.
Michael Joyce is a wildlife ecologist working at the Natural Resources Research Institute in Duluth. He has been studying wildlife in northern Minnesota over the last 12 years. His research focuses broadly on wildlife ecology, conservation, and management, with an emphasis on understanding the effects of human activities on wildlife populations and communities.
Registration is recommended, but not required.
