Phase I Boardwalk Completed

Phase I Boardwalk Complete!

Phase I of the Friends of the North Pikes Creek Wetlands’ planned boardwalk at Beaver Hollow is now complete. The boardwalk has 600′ of universally accessible walkway, ending at a 12’x8′ wildlife viewing platform with benches. The original plan for the boardwalk was modified when the building crew realized that the boardwalk would be 80′ shy of a direct view of the Great Blue Heron rookery. Additional materials were purchased, and the boardwalk was extended to locate the viewing platform directly across from the rookery. The boardwalk extends into the wetlands traversing over an abandoned narrow gauge railroad grade. The boardwalk guides visitor foot traffic above fragile wetland soils, thus protecting the wetland environment and the microhabitats utilized by numerous wildlife, while allowing the visitor to enjoy a safe walk into a wetland. When you visit Beaver Hollow, bring your binoculars for a good view of the Herons!
